Why do the moon and sun look similar in size to us?

The Yr 3 classes conducted a demonstration to explain why the moon and sun look to be similar sizes in our sky, despite the fact that we know the sun is much larger. One student was the earth and stayed in one place, the second student held a tennis ball as the ‘moon’, the third student held a much larger ball as the ‘sun’. The third student moved away from the ‘earth’ and ‘moon’ until the ‘sun’ ball looked to be the same size as the ‘moon’ ball. After this demonstration students concluded that the further the distance something is from the observer the smaller it looks. So the sun is A LOT further away from the earth than the moon.
