Now we know why the balloon went up!

IMG_1415 IMG_1416 IMG_1430After our investigation last week and our new one this week we have found out that yeast is activated by warm water. (Our investigation this week looked at whether yeast was activated in cold, warm or hot water.) Once yeast is active it breaks down sugar and a by product of this reaction is carbon dioxide. The production of carbon dioxide increased the gas in the enclosed bottle and made the balloon rise.
