Life through the Microscope

To finish our unit on microorganisms the Year 6 classes ventured over to the secondary science labs and gained some useful microscope skills. They began easily with tiny scraps of newspaper, observing what the type looked like, then compared strands of hair using 300 x magnification. It was fascinating to see the different structure of each hair strand. Finally they discovered thousands of yeast cells in one tiny drop of yeast mixture and observed protozoa and the structure of plant filaments from pond slime.
