Magnetic Preps

This week the Preps explored magnets. They predicted what materials would be attracted to magnets, watched a demonstration of floating magnets and challenged each other to pick up a string of paper clips. Lots of paper racing cars sped around race tracks using a paper clip and magnetic force through the table.

At the end of the session students reflected on their learning. They said: “magnets can push and pull each other”, “magnets pick up metal (but not all)” and “magnets can work through tables”. Lots of fantastic learning Preps!

Elastic Frogs

To follow up from their ‘Elastic Energy’ science launch the Year 3 classes visited the science room for the first time this week. They created jumping frogs using the potential energy of a stretched elastic band.

Science is starting

A small portion of our recycled goodies!

A small portion of our recycled goodies!

Over the Christmas holidays our school ducks were looked after by Madison and Noah. Now they are back at school and the Grade 5s are collecting the eggs and looking forward to hatching some more ducklings.

The science room is slowly taking shape. A sink has been put in and lots of recycled materials are coming to school to help our program.

This week we have our first Science Launch. On Wednesday (19th) the Grade 3s and 4s will be experiencing “Elastic Energy”. Click on the links for their reports and photos.
