Properties of liquids

The Year 5s have started their learning about ‘matter’ by exploring and determining the properties of liquids. They found all liquids pour but at different rates, liquids take the shape of the container and when you shake different liquids some form lots of bubbles, some a little and some not at all.

What’s the matter?

Year 5s are exploring the states of matter, solids, liquids and gases. To begin the topic we had fun making ‘gloop / oobleek’ and

discussing whether it was a solid or liquid.

Creating an Orrery

The Year 5 students are exploring ‘Our Place in Space’. They worked in groups of 3 to create an Orrery (a mechanical model of the solar system) to show their initial thinking of the relationship between the sun, earth and moon.

Year 5 – Energy in Motion

Energy in Motion

At the Year 5 Science launch the students explored the concept of ‘Energy’ through conducting an experiment using milk carton carts travelling down ramps. They chose to change only one variable – height of the ramp, starting height of cart on the ramp or length of wheel base on the cart. They measured the distances traveled and recorded their results using a graph.

Experiment - How does changing the height of a ramp effect the distance a carton cart travels?
